Strategic Partnerships and Global Connectivity In addition to the GSAP, 500 Global, a prominent accelerator, has formed a strategic partnership with dcamp to accelerate startup growth. Dcamp, established in 2012, launched "dcamp 2.0" in 2024, selecting 10 startups every quarter with a focus on information and communication technology (ICT), deep-tech, and climate-tech.
In a significant move to bolster Japanese innovation on the global stage, 105 startups from Japan have been selected to join the Global Startup Acceleration Program (GSAP) for the year 2024. This initiative, founded in 2020 by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japanese government, seeks to enhance the global competitiveness of Japanese startups through collaboration with leading tech accelerators.
Expansion of GSAP and Its Specialized Courses
Since its inception in 2020, GSAP has expanded significantly, with the total number of startups participating in the program now exceeding 500. The program offers six specialized courses tailored to different startup needs, including new additions like the B2B Commercial Traction course. These courses aim to provide comprehensive support to startups by addressing specific industry challenges and opportunities.
The 2024 edition of the program marks the introduction of new courses in collaboration with top U.S. accelerators. Notably, the AI/Sustainability Course is conducted in partnership with StartX, a first-time collaboration. Additionally, the BioTech/MedTech Course is facilitated by Ensanté, while the Manufacturing Tech Course is in conjunction with Industry 4.0. These specialized courses are designed to equip startups with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their respective fields.
Hybrid Format and Comprehensive Support
The GSAP 2024 cohort will benefit from a hybrid format that combines online and on-site elements, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for all participants. The program, which runs until March 2025, includes a variety of components such as business lectures, bootcamps, one-on-one mentoring sessions, and demo days. This comprehensive approach aims to provide startups with the necessary tools to thrive in competitive markets.
Additionally, the program offers opportunities for startups to participate in overseas exhibitions, allowing them to showcase their innovations and connect with potential investors and partners. By facilitating these international connections, GSAP plays a crucial role in strengthening the global presence of Japanese startups.
Strengthening U.S.–Japan Collaboration
As part of the efforts to enhance collaboration between Japan and the U.S., a delegation of 23 representatives from 19 Japanese companies, spanning industries such as trading, banking, research and development, and medical devices, embarked on a three-day visit to North Carolina. This visit underscores the commitment to fostering closer ties between the two countries and promoting mutual growth and innovation.
Furthermore, JETRO will host the Japan Innovation Night on June 18, 2025, an event dedicated to showcasing Japanese biotech startups. This occasion will provide a platform for these startups to present their advancements and explore potential collaborations with international stakeholders.
Strategic Partnerships and Global Connectivity
In addition to the GSAP, 500 Global, a prominent accelerator, has formed a strategic partnership with dcamp to accelerate startup growth. This partnership, which began in 2012, aims to connect Korean founders to Silicon Valley, offering them access to 500 Global's flagship accelerator program. Dcamp, established in 2012, launched "dcamp 2.0" in 2024, selecting 10 startups every quarter with a focus on information and communication technology (ICT), deep-tech, and climate-tech.
This strategic alliance aims to provide comprehensive startup support and foster cross-border innovation, further enhancing the global startup ecosystem. By facilitating these connections, both 500 Global and dcamp play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between regional and global startup communities.
Overall, the inclusion of 105 Japanese startups in the GSAP 2024 cohort represents a significant step towards reinforcing Japan's position in the global innovation landscape.
