Chemistry Start-ups Join Accelerator Programme
The Change Makers programme is set to revolutionize the landscape for deep-tech chemistry start-ups, offering a robust platform for growth and innovation. Launched in early 2023, this initiative is a testament to the evolving synergy between science and entrepreneurship, aiming to nurture ventures with the potential to significantly impact society.
Building on a Legacy of Support
The Change Makers programme is an evolution of the Royal Society of Chemistry's EnterprisePlus programme, which has been a cornerstone for supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for over a decade. With a track record of fostering more than 600 SMEs, EnterprisePlus has paved the way for the new initiative, designed to amplify the reach and impact of start-ups in the chemistry sector.
"The selection of companies is based on their high potential and anticipated benefits to society," said a programme representative. "Our aim is to cultivate innovations that can make a real difference."
Accelerating Growth through Strategic Partnerships
Integral to the programme's strategy is its collaboration with Rockstart, an accelerator renowned for transforming business ideas into market-ready ventures. Rockstart's model, akin to those used by TechStars and Y Combinator, focuses on providing start-ups with intensive support over a 100-day period. This approach has been shown to significantly enhance the survival rates of start-ups involved in such accelerators.
The first cohort of ten start-ups has been filled with the guidance of an international mentor group, reflecting the programme's global outlook. The selection process, which begins each autumn, is keenly anticipated by aspiring entrepreneurs worldwide.
Diverse International Participation
In parallel, the Mohammed bin Rashid Innovation Fund (MBRIF) has also announced the addition of 11 new start-ups to its accelerator programme. Originating from diverse regions including the UAE, France, South Africa, and the United States, these companies represent various sectors such as transport, education, technology, and health.
Launched in December 2018, the MBRIF Accelerator provides start-ups with essential coaching, services, and funding, aimed at enhancing their growth potential. The programme's success is evident in the achievements of its previous members, who have scaled operations, expanded their market footprint, and secured significant funding.
A Promising Future for Innovators
As the Change Makers programme continues to evolve, its commitment to fostering innovation in the chemistry sector remains steadfast. Potential applicants and interested parties are encouraged to visit the Change Makers website for more information on this transformative initiative.
With the backing of experienced teams, including those responsible for organizing Startup Weekends, the programme is set to be a catalyst for change, driving forward the next wave of scientific breakthroughs and entrepreneurial success stories.
